ASOTIN - Filing week in Washington is wrapping up and candidates are signing up and preparing to campaign.

In Asotin County, only two contested local races were taking shape as of Thursday night.

The newly appointed county assessor Dave Abbott will run against Chris Wood. The Clarkston Port Commissioner Seat 3 will also see a contest, with incumbent Marvin Jackson facing off against Jock Pring.

For Asotin City Council Keith Delzer, Robert Van Pelt, Mervin Schneider and David Weakland were all running unopposed as of Thursday.

It's a similar story in Clarkston as Kathleen Warren, John Smith and Larry Baumberger were unopposed, along with newly-appointed council member George Nash.

Candidates have until 5 pm Friday to file. The Washington primary election is August 18.
