ASOTIN - Asotin County Commissioners chose an interim assessor at their weekly meeting Monday.

Chris Wood, a current employee in the assessor’s office, was chosen in a 2 to 1 vote to fill the seat vacated by Anthony Rogers. Commissioners said she has been with the county for 17 years and is the commercial appraiser. Besides Wood, commissioners received two other letters of interest from assessor’s office employees.

Rogers resigned from his position as assessor in the wake of state auditor allegations of his abusing his office for personal gain.

A more permanent replacement will be chosen after the Asotin County Democrats forwards three candidate names to the commissioners by the end of the month.

The person selected would then have to run for election in November to retain their position.
