LEWISTON - In conjunction with LCSC, the Lewiston Police Department will hold what's called active shooter training Tuesday afternoon.

Sergeant Ted Piche said the mock exercise will resemble a situation like the one seen at Virginia Tech in 2007. Piche said it's not that a similar situation is likely in the Valley, but they want to be prepared, just in case.

"A lot of this has come about because of school shootings, and that's exactly why we're doing this," said Piche. "We want to identify what we're doing right, and maybe things we could do different. Whether it be equipment needs or training issues. But it's just going to be an excellent opportunity for agencies to work together and identify issues."

They will be evaluating the entire process with about 100 role players, evaluators and law enforcement. The exercise will be taking place around 1 p.m. so police advise residents not to be alarmed when they see the activity on campus.
