Commissioners unanimously voted Monday to continue a ten-year relationship with Swanson Services Corporation. The service has allowed inmates to use their own money to get items such as candy bars, writing utensils, socks, and shoes.
"It's a way for the inmate to get a product that's not brought in by mom and dad on the streets, where there's potential to be contraband in it.
Lutes said the service comes at no cost to the county, and is funded by the inmates' purchases. Lutes said new technology for the service will include an automated kiosk in each cell pod.
"He can make his order from that," said Lutes. "There will be rules and regulations that we can provide that will come across that screen like a teleprompter. We're catching up to the technology now with the new detention center."
