Man rescued from George Creek Canyon
ASOTIN - A man was rescued late Monday afternoon, after falling in George Creek Canyon, southwest of Asotin. Asotin County Fire Chief Noel Hardin said the injured man was some 1,500 feet down in a 2,000 foot canyon.
Asotin County Fire and Lewiston Fire crews, using ropes and harnesses, moved the man to the bottom of the canyon, about 500 feet down from where he was found. A MedStar helicopter was waiting to transport him. Hardin said the man, who is in his late 30's to early 40's, fell some 30 to 40 feet from a bluff and suffered a head injury. The man was conscious and breathing as he was loaded on to the helicopter. As darkness fell, rescue teams loaded their gear onto ATVs and headed down to the mouth of the canyon on foot using illumination devices. |
