LEWISTON/CLARKSTON- It was a dark and rainy early Sunday morning as a crash in Lewiston sent a Clarkston man to the hospital.

It happened just before 1 a.m. Lewiston Police said Robert Boyle was traveling westbound down Bryden Canyon Road. According to investigators, it appears he took the curve too fast, lost control on the slippery pavement and hit the cement barrier, ending up in the ditch.

Boyle was ejected through the windshield. Police said it appeared he was not wearing a seat belt.

The speed and force of the crash pushed the pickup truck back out of the ditch and into the eastbound lanes of Bryden. Police said alcohol was a factor and citations are pending as the investigation continues. Medics transported Boyles to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center where he was listed in fair condition Monday afternoon.

Police said alcohol was also a factor in a crash Saturday night in Clarkston. It happened at about 10:00 p.m. in the 1600 block of Lambert Drive in the Clarkston Heights.

45-year-old Reinhold Baer of Clarkston allegedly hit a power pole head-on. He was taken to Tri-State with minor injuries. Asotin County Sheriff Ken Bancroft said Baer had "scratches on his face". Crews later responded to reports of a fire at that same power pole about an hour later.

Bancroft said Baer appeared to be intoxicated at the time of the crash. Bancroft said charges are pending the outcome of blood tests.
