Accident on Lewiston Hill

Truck damaged after rear-ending semi

By Stephanie Smith

LEWISTON - Road work caused traffic to be backed up on the grade, then an accident made delays even worse.

Thursday about 1:00 p.m, a pickup was northbound, when, just a couple miles from the top, Lewiston resident Levi Oaks came upon a semi. Witnesses said the big-rig was only going about 25 miles per hour.

"This gentleman here was coming up the hill," said Idaho State Police Corporal Steven Smith. "He said he saw the truck, checked his mirror to make sure no traffic was coming so he could go around it. "When he turned back around it was right up on him, so he had a collision."

The northbound lane was was closed down for about an hour. Oaks complained of chest and back pain when medics arrived on scene, but was not taken to the hospital. Smith said the driver of the semi was Oregon resident Jason Hutson, who was not injured. Along with some severe front end damage, Oaks was cited for the collision.
