Big Cougar fire only 10% contained
LEWISTON, ID - The Big Cougar fire burning 24 miles south of Lewiston is now burned five homes.

Firefighters have the blaze 10% contained; however, it has burned more than 40,000. The steep terrain is proving difficult for the more than 300 firefighters battling the blaze.

"We’re talking about those really, really steep ridges, cliffed out areas, a lot of rocky areas there so it's often unsafe to put the firefighters on the hill so they're using a lot of the aerial support a lot of the bucket drops and retardant drops," said Meg Nemitz.

The Big Cougar fire continues to threaten 160 structures tonight. Crews are conducting burn out operations along today in an effort to slow the fire down.
