The Kellis Clarkston connection

CLARKSTON – A man charged with child rape worked in the Clarkston School District for 11 years.

38-year-old Timothy A. Kellis is facing one count of second-degree rape of a child in Asotin County, as well as charges in Latah County.

A copy of the police report for the Asotin County case indicates Kellis was a color guard instructor for the marching band at Clarkston High School. The alleged victim in the case claims he met Kellis at band camp at Camp Wooten, near Pomeroy.

The alleged victim recently came forward and told police he was a student at Lincoln Middle School when, under Kellis' mentoring, he joined the Clarkston High marching band.

The report contains emails exchanged between Kellis, then-band director Fred Dole and former CHS principal Van Cummings concerning middle school students participating on the color guard and winter guard. The emails were dated early 2004.

Also in the report are allegations that the boy would often spend the night at Kellis’ Clarkston home and wake up to what is referred to in the report as "improper touching."

Dole declined to comment on the matter Wednesday. Clarkston School District Human Resource officials confirmed that Kellis was employed as a marching band and winter guard instructor from September 1995 to the Fall of 2006.

He also worked at Highland School in Craigmont.
