Sheriff: Strunk's behavior unpredictable

By Hayley Guenthner

LEWISTON - They're bringing in the big guns in Latah County.

56-year-old Dallas Strunk has been missing since last Tuesday. Latah County Sheriff Wayne Rausch says Strunk is wanted for questioning regarding his possible involvement in a fatal arson fire that claimed the life of his 88-year-old mother.

Rausch says the last sign of Strunk came about a week ago when his car was found destroyed by fire on Freezeout Ridge in Shoshone County. Rausch said authorities are calling in even more help to comb the area.

"Sometime within the next day or two the Guard out of Spokane is going to be flying a helicopter there in that area," said Rausch.

Rausch said statements Strunk made following his 2005 arrest for arson were bizarre. He said deputies report that each dealing with Strunk is more strange than the last.

"He thinks he's sent here on earth for a particular mission,” Rausch said. “I've never understood that of course. He’s made statements that he's doing these things for God or some angelic creature. At one point he told one of our officers that he was waiting on a mountain for the spaceship to come pick him up."

Rausch said he hopes the air search will turn up a heat signal that can lead to Strunk's location. He still urges the public to keep their eyes open, but stresses extreme caution.

"You can't predict what somebody like this is going to do."

Strunk is 6'1, 200 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. If you have any information on his whereabouts, call your local law enforcement agency immediately.
