It happened just before 2 p.m. near the Clearwater River Casino. Idaho State Police and Nez Perce County deputies responded to the scene to direct traffic.
ISP said 57-year-old Dorothy Martin was attempting to turn left in a Dodge van onto 95 from Nez Perce Road and was struck by 70-year-old Virgil Brown of Juliaetta who was traveling north on 95 in a Buick LeSabre. ISP said Martin failed to yield at the intersection and that Brown tried to avoid the crash but was unable to do so.
"From what we can make out, the gray car was attempting to travel north when the blue van pulled out in front of it attempting to make a left hand turn going south," said ISP Trooper Jeffory Talbott.
Brown and his passenger, 71-year-old Norma Brown, also of Juliaetta, were transported to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. Martin was also transported. Martin was reported as stable Friday night. Norma Brown was listed in serious condition and Virgil Brown was treated and released.
Talbott said the van was carrying a large amount of supplies for a raft trip and was being followed by a group heading to Riggins. He said, although he could not specify, he anticipated that charges will result.
"Charges will probably be filed. Yes."
