Power loss for 2,500 people lasted less than an hour
MOSCOW, ID – A section of Moscow’s “A” Street is currently closed to traffic because a woman accused of driving under the influence knocked over a power pole Tuesday evening.

Moscow Police Chief David Duke said 28-year-old Raquel Betlate from Moscow was heading home from Pullman when she hit the pole and knocked out the power lines.

Duke said almost 2,500 people lost power for less than an hour, and now it is up to Avista workers to repair the damaged pole.

"Estimated around $3,000 to replace the pole, and the Nissan was pretty much totaled, the left front was pushed into the engine compartment, so I would say somewhere around $5,000 damage," said Duke.

Betlate had minor injuries. No other cars were involved. She was arrested for driving under the influence at the scene and taken to the Latah County jail. She has since been released.
