OROFINO - The Clearwater River hit flood stage Monday, threatening homes and an RV Park in Orofino.

Clearwater County was using inmates to help sandbag an area at the Clearwater Crossing RV Park.

"We've got some erosion issues from the high water," said Orofino Mayor Ryan Smathers. "It's come above the rock line, the anticipated high river mark. There's some erosion behind the rocks that we are trying to sandbag with the inmates now to prevent any further property loss."

Officials said none of the RV's were damaged and the park was still open as of Monday afternoon.

"This morning it got close to some of the power boxes around the RV park," said Smathers. "It worked out good that they got them moved in time."

In the backyard of a house off 115th Street, they were using pumps and sandbags to protect their property.

Officials said they expected the river to crest Tuesday and then go down later Tuesday afternoon.

The National Weather Service forecasts the river to remain above a flood stage of 17 feet through Wednesday morning. The Clearwater River at Sites was also approaching flood stage. A flood watch is in effect for Idaho County, with officials keeping a close eye on the Salmon at White Bird, the Little Salmon at Riggins and the Selway at Lowell.
