Sheriff Truck hits elk on Lewiston Hill

By Matt Loveless

LEWISTON GRADE - Two Valley County Sheriff's officials walk away unharmed after hitting an elk on the Lewiston Grade. The elk wasn't so lucky. It happened just before 10:00 p.m. Thursday.

Now, there was plenty of damage done to a Valley County truck. The two sheriff's officials say they were coming back from training in Coeur D'Alene southbound on Highway 95, and were about three miles north of Lewiston when the elk jumped over the median. The driver says he didn't have time to get out of the way.

Officials from Idaho Fish and Game picked up the elk, and say it will be salvaged for it's meat. ISP said it was unusual to see an elk at this low of an elevation on the grade.
