Lewiston street project slated to get underway
Repaving work will be done on a number of Lewiston streets beginning this summer. By Matt Loveless
LEWISTON - The City of Lewiston has plans to revamp some streets.
Street Maintenance Manager Keith Bingman says 23 miles of road will undergo chip-seal and cold-mix paving starting this summer. "The chip-seal projects will basically be between 8th Street in the Orchards to 8th Street downtown and Grelle in the Orchards to 23rd Avenue downtown,” said Bingman. “In that general area." Bingman says they haven't heard back from the contractor on when he wants to start, and says it could be as early as June, and as late as August. But he says once the projects get started, it would take less than two weeks to finish. Bingman says it will come with closures on some main and residential roads, but he says it worth it for the years they'll get out of it. "That's the whole goal to get as much life out of these roads as we can. It's no different than doing maintenance on your house. If you do maintenance on your house it lasts a long time. If you don't, you pay more later." Bingman said they'll also be doing cold mix paving in neighborhoods near the Lewiston Elks.
