Exploring the environment one bird, bug and fish at a time

LEWISTON - At Hells Gate State Park Thursday, area 6th graders got a field trip they’ll remember.
"This is the 21st year that the Conservation District hosted Environmental Awareness Days and each spring we invite, Lewiston, Clarkston, Lapwai students to Hells Gate for natural resource classes," said Rachel Allen, with the Nez Perce Soil & Water Conservation District. Kids were able to visit booths hosted by the likes of Idaho Fish and Game and the University of Idaho. “There are ten natural resource stations,” Allen said. “We have geology, soils, forestry, entomology, fisheries, we have agriculture, wildlife and birds of prey." The insect exhibit was one of the most popular, where kids were able to hold different bugs. "They are very excited, very enthusiastic. All the classes are hands on activities that really engage the students," said Allen. |
