Life on the road for LaRocco
Larry LaRocco listens to a question Wednesday during an interview at LCSC. By Matt Loveless
LEWISTON – Democrat Larry LaRocco continues his "Working for the Senate" campaign, doing odd jobs around the state. He said Wednesday during a stop in Lewiston that his next stop is in Kamiah, where he will address the Chamber of Commerce about economic development.
"Obviously, when the housing market catches a cold nationally, the Clearwater Valley's going to catch pneumonia," said LaRocco. "So we have to make sure that we have a safety net for them, and that Congress is going to work on their behalf. We've had a bail-out on Wall Street, but Main Street needs some help right now." LaRocco said he'll be taking input, and letting residents know what he's doing to improve connectivity along the Clearwater. He also talked about what he said is a recent "Watergate-style" break-in at his Boise campaign office. LaRocco called the situation "disturbing," but said police continue to investigate. He speculates the vandalism may have been politically driven. "We didn't find anything taken, so we just have to assume somebody was trying to send a message," he said. "I don't think anybody was at the wrong place. I think our campaign headquarters was obviously identified as where the LaRocco for Senate campaign was headquartered." Though nothing appeared to have gone missing, LaRocco said there was about $200 worth of damage to an office door. He said he filed a report with Boise Police. With regard to the campaign, he says he believes it needs to be a competitive race in the fall. "We've got to have a strong two party system here, and we've got to have a choice," said LaRocco. "If somebody was trying to send me a message, all I can tell you is I'm just continuing to work hard, and we're not off track." LaRocco, a former U.S. Representative, said his next stop in his campaign is in Meridian, where he'll work at a tire recycling plant. Republicans running for the same Senate seat, the one being vacated by Republican Senator Larry Craig, include frontrunner, Lt. Governor Jim Risch. |
