A Federal Aviation Administration spokesman in Seattle says a private pilot reported seeing the meteorite hit the earth in a burst of light in Adams County, Washington, just before 6:00 a.m.
People from all over the Northwest also saw it, saying it resembled summer lightning, a rocket, a satellite, or an exploding transformer.
A lady from Walla Walla, about 55 miles south-southeast of the reported crash site said she heard a sonic boom and felt a shock wave not long after seeing the streaking meteor.
The Adams County Sheriff's Office and Washington State Patrol say they have had no reports of damage, injury, or a meteor impact in the area.
