Megaload petition claims oil company has another alternative
LEWISTON - Megaload intervenors filed a petition with ITD Wednesday asking Director Brian Ness to reconsider and withdraw the permits issued last week for Imperial Oil shipments.

Opponents are asking Ness to consider new evidence they say was not included in the original decision.

Environmental group Friends of the Clearwater joined intervenors in the new action. In their petition they say recent actions by Imperial Oil show there is an alternative route to get equipment to the Kearl Oil Project in Canada.

Earlier this month the company announced plans to reduce load sizes and ship them via interstate highway rather than on Highway 12.

Petitioner Borg Hendrickson said in 2010 public meetings, residents were repeatedly told there was no alternate route.

Attempts to contact Imperial Oil and ITD for comment were not successful Wednesday.
