LEWISTON - It is a special tree for a special time of year.

Every Christmas tree is special, but this particular tree comes with an extra message.

Sherry Domaskin, with the help of her friends and family, had the idea to dedicate a tree in the Tri-State Hospital Foundation’s Festival of Trees to those serving in the military.

"Well, my sister is the one that came up with the idea," said volunteer Sandy Andrews. "My nephew is heading to Iraq the weekend after Thanksgiving and she wanted to do something to honor the military that are all deployed and serving our country. She wanted everyone to know what sacrifices these boys are making."

The tree was the only tree pre-purchased. It will spend the season brightening up the State Veterans Home. But, there are more to be auctioned off.

"Saturday night is the gala, auction, dinner and dance," said event coordinator Tara Wood. "We auction off all of the trees. 18 trees we're auctioning off."

If you would like to attend the Gala and Auction or the Tea and Fashion Show, call the Tri-State Hospital Foundation at (509) 751-4556 or stop by their office at 1347 12th Street in Clarkston.

All the money raised during the festival goes to support Tri-State Memorial Hospital.
