Monday night the city council voted to raise property taxes one percent. This is the first time in six years that property taxes have increased.
"We've got some extraordinary difficulties budget wise, mainly because of the stormwater issue and the ambulance and such," said Clarkston Mayor Donna Engle.
There were also first readings for tax increases for sewer and sanitation rates.
After the meeting, the council held a budget workshop where they discussed how they will find funding in their budget to pay for stormwater regulations if the utility fails on the February ballot.
One method discussed was cutting funding to the Asotin County Aquatic Center.
