PORTLAND, Ore. - An 11-year-old boy was arrested after flashing a loaded handgun at a woman on a MAX train Thursday night.
Police say a group of boys and girls were boarding a train just before 8:30 when one of the boys bumped into a woman with a baby stroller.
The 11-year-old got into an argument with the woman and he lifted his shirt to reveal a loaded .22-caliber semiautomatic handgun in his waistband, police said. The woman backed off when the boy started to pull the gun out and called 911.
The train stopped at the Old Town/Chinatown station and police arrested the boy after the woman pointed him out to police. Police also took into custody a 13-year-old boy who had a BB gun in his backpack.
The 13-year-old was taken to Janus Youth Program and the 11-year-old was taken to the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Home.
The incident comes after a spate of violence on the transit line, including an assault on a teenager captured on cell phone video earlier this month. Four people were arrested in that investigation.
A few days after that incident, a KATU News crew setting up to do a story about safety on the light rail line captured video of a teen running near a MAX station with what appeared to be a gun in his hand. He was pursued by members of the Guardian Angels but escaped capture at the time.
The teen was later arrested and the gun turned out to be a non-lethal Airsoft pistol with the orange tip removed to make it look more realistic.
