That's the goal of the US Army Corp of Engineers. Monday they gave an update to the Clearwater County Commissioners about safety improvements being made at the dam.
"We are making excellent progress on our studies," said Dam Safety Project Manager Allen Pomraning. "Many of the things we were looking at when we received our rating in 2007 are working out and some of our studies are inconclusive. We will continue on for another two years and make sure everything is as we think. This summer and this fall we are going to see some folks up on the dam doing some instrumentation and putting in some water stops with big drill rigs up there."
The safety improvements are being paid for with federal stimulus funds.
"We are really here today to share with folks that we have a sincere interest in all the communities that live below the dam," said Pomraning. "So we are trying to make sure that we are being transparent and communicating with the public in positive ways."
