LEWISTON - The Lewis and Clark Health Center celebrated one year of serving the LC Valley and surrounding area Tuesday.

The Community Health Association of Spokane celebrated their Lewiston clinic's anniversary Tuesday afternoon. The celebration is also part of National Health Center Week, which focuses on the need for community-based health care clinics.

Joe Reckard is a patient of the clinic. He said without the local office, he'd have to drive to Spokane for his treatment.

"Within two weeks I was in," said Reckard. "They are fantastic people. I don't feel like a number here. I actually feel like we're almost friends."

And CHAS CEO Peg Hopkins said that is the goal, to provide quality health care to an entire community.

"Often right now and in the United States, a lot of those people are uninsured," said Hopkins. "Those people are welcome. But also, you find people who are on Medicare find difficulty finding access to care, Medicaid or private insurance even. So, it's really to create access to health care to increase the wellness of the community."
