Looking for quality food that's quick? ShopSmart's deputy editor, Sue Perry, says there's no shame in buying packaged foods that are ready to eat.

"Go for convenience!" she said. "Sure, it may cost a bit more, but with everyone so time-pressed and over scheduled these days, sometimes it's your best bet for eating healthy."

For tips on eating well quickly, ShopSmart followed nutritional guidelines and came up with a list of the healthiest convenience foods.

It includes snacks like mini Babybel light cheese.

Easy to toss in your purse -- these deliver lots of calcium and six grams of protein, with only 50 calories.

Craving a crunch? try Pirate's Booty aged white cheddar rice and corn puffs. They satisfy, with 130 calories and five grams of fat per serving.

Melissa's edamame-shelled soybeans pack nine grams of protein into snack time. Or toss them with pasta for a simple supper.

A bag of Perdue Simply Smart original grilled chicken strips can set you back several dollars more than grilling a chicken, but pair these heat-and-eat strips with some fresh veggies, and you've got a healthy dinner in no time.

"Adding your own ingredients, like pasta and fresh vegetables, is a great way to jazz up prepared foods," Perry said. "And it's a smart way to balance out your meals."

A box of Doctor Praeger's Tex-Mex veggie burgers in your freezer is another quick way to get veggies, fiber, and vitamins. Just add lettuce and a slice of tomato, and you're good to go in a snap!

Stocking up on smart choices like these goes a long way to keeping your quick-fix foods healthy.

Nutritional experts at Consumer Reports say you should choose snacks with less than 200 calories and fewer than 5 grams of fat. For full meals, look for something under 650 calories and 21 grams of fat.
