Orchards Elementary School celebrates Anniversary with carnival

Orchards Elementary School celebrates Anniversary with carnival
LEWISTON, ID - Lewiston Orchards Elementary will turn back the clock to celebrate its 100th anniversary.

The first orchards school opened its doors in October of 1912 with just two teachers and 40 students. The school has since grown in size, however the tradition of holding a school carnival remains. On Saturday that carnival will be bigger than normal in commemoration of the school's anniversary; featuring more than 25 booths and activities for the whole family to enjoy.

"Duck pond, chicken chuck, football toss, tattoos, face painting the whole nine yards," said Orchards PTA Treasurer Lorinda Bisso.

"We have some pies 15-cents a slice," said Orchards PTA President Kelli Hall. "So it's kind of fun for kids and adults to remember the old price and appreciate the old price."

The carnival will kick off Saturday at the Nez Perce County Fair Pavilion at 11:00 a.m. with a special commemoration ceremony. The carnival is open to the public and admission is only 10-cents, which was the cost of the carnival when the tradition first began.
