Historic Miranda Cabin moves to downtown Lewiston

Historic Miranda Cabin moves to downtown Lewiston
LEWISTON, ID - The City of Lewiston's best kept and oldest secret will be moved downtown for everyone to enjoy.

The ten-by-twelve-foot Miranda cabin is one of the earliest houses built by pioneers in Lewiston, and it's considered to be the oldest residence in the area to still be standing. The cabin was moved from its downtown location to Pioneer Park more than 75 years ago and Friday it will make its final move to the corner of 12th and F street in Lewiston, right next to the capital replica building.

"Sprinklers have been hitting it, it's deteriorating the building," said Lewiston Historic Committee Chairman Bill Miller. "It's under trees, which the trees are creating moss on it."

The Lewiston High School shop class has removed the floorboards so two fork lifts can place it onto a truck for the move, which is scheduled for Saturday at 10a.m. Treating the cabin with a chemical that should help with preservation is the final step. The Miranda cabin is estimated to be more than 140-years-old.
