Fire destroys garage in early morning blaze

Fire destroys garage in early morning blaze
CLARKSTON, WA - An early morning fire in downtown Clarkston is under investigation.

According to Clarkston Fire Chief Steve Cooper, the fire department is coordinating with Clarkston police because the cause of the early morning fire has been deemed "suspicious." The structure fire in the 1200 block of 5th Street was reported a little before 2:00 a.m. Despite the quickness with which the flames were knocked down, the building suffered severe damage.

"It was a garage that was isolated behind the structure, it was away from the residence enough that we didn't have any threat to the structure itself, so were able to get a good knock down initially,” said Clarkston Fire Department Captain Jim Babino. “Then we got inside the garage and put the remainder of the fire out."

Babino said that the fire destroyed the garage. No injuries have been reported at this time, and the blaze remains under investigation.
