Fire Operations Chief moves up ladder as Pullman Fire Chief

PULLMAN, WA - Tuesday night the Pullman City Council will approve the appointment of a new fire chief.

Operations Chief Mike Heston will take over for Pullman Fire Chief Scott LaVielle, who announced his retirement last Friday. If the council approves his appointment Tuesday night, he will officially become chief on February first.

“I feel very excited and humbled to take the lead of the Pullman Fire Department and I appreciate the support and the confidence of the city mayor and the city council," said Heston.

Heston worked for the Washington State University Fire Department before becoming the Chief Operations Officer at Pullman Fire Department in 1996. He said that he respects the work that LaVielle did during his year as fire chief, and he hopes to carry on the family-like atmosphere that LaVielle established in the department.
