NEZPERCE - Boise has over 200,000 residents. But the governor made Nezperce, with it's 500 inhabitants, Capital for the Day Friday.

Each month Governor Butch Otter and some of his cabinet members go to a different rural small town in Idaho and hold a town hall meeting.

"They don't really get the face time with cabinet members that can answer directly their question, rather than going through some regional person who are very adequate at their jobs, but we just like the directors themselves to get out into rural Idaho and see that folks have some real problems and try to answer those problems," said Otter.

The public, as well as local politicians, got the chance to ask questions of the governor and his entourage.

"There is a myriad of questions that they have and issues that they want to talk about, but they pretty much center on economics and economic development and the economy itself and jobs," said Otter.

Otter talked about the importance of communication systems and highways to help Idaho businesses. He said economics have dominated Capital for a Day meetings across the state over the last year.

"Here in Lewis County, as I recall, unemployment is at 5.6 percent," said Otter. "The state now is at 9.4 percent so there are some counties that are well into double digits. But you know, if we have anybody anywhere that's out of work, we'd like them to have the opportunity to have a job."

Otter said the next Capital for a Day won't be announced for another two weeks.
