Saturday the Lewiston Salvation Army is holding it's annual Spaghetti and Meatball dinner. In years past the funds raised have stayed here with the Salvation Army, but this year the money is headed to Haiti.
"As we all know, Haiti has been totally devastated and it's going to take literally years for them to recover," said Salvation Army Captain Ralph Guthrie. "Ongoing financial help is what they're needing right now and this is just one way that we're doing it. Salvation Armies around the country are doing similar things as this."
Cooks were busy Friday morning making enough meatballs to feed 250 people. And along with enjoying them with your dinner, you can also purchase some to take home.
"They're making about 600 meatballs," said Guthrie. "In addition to the spaghetti and meatball dinner were preparing individual servings of meatballs for the people. I believe there's 8 or 10 meatballs in a package for $8.00 and it's just to bring in a little extra money. They're delicious meatballs."
The dinner starts Saturday at 1:00 and goes until 5:00 at the Salvation Army. All proceeds go to the disaster relief efforts in Haiti.
Tickets can be purchased at the door.
