About 120 people attended a special meeting Tuesday night called by the Orofino school board to discuss when to close the junior high. After hearing arguments for and against closing it sooner, rather than later, the board voted 3-2 to keep the junior high open for students this coming fall.
Orofino Superintendent Dale Durkee said the board has approved a long-range plan of housing 7th through 12th graders at the high school. He said that determination was made due to declining enrollment, the junior high's condition and budget cuts.
Durkee said even with moving and housing additional students, the plan will save the district money.
He said the item isn't on any future agendas at this point and won't be until the board is ready to reconsider when the closure should take place.
