“The law says that if you impact one acre or more you are required to pull a permit, not 5,000 square feet. That's too stringent. “Like Mr Ristau said, it's basically the size of a small lot in downtown Clarkston,” said Dennis Plunkett, a concerned Asotin County resident.
Plunkett also said he feels the fines that range up to $1,000 a day are excessive.
Others in the audience said they can't afford a storm water fee. One man said “God should be taxed”, because he is the one who makes it rain and causes storm water.
Commissioners re-iterated that they are complying with a federal mandate and if the county does not get in line with federal law, they not only face a fine of over $40,000 per day, but also third party lawsuits.
Commissioners approved the component of the storm water ordinances being considered.
