Pedestrian tunnel will go under Snake River Avenue

LEWISTON – The Nez Perce County Commissioners held their weekly meeting on Monday, with a fairly light agenda.

The council did make a decision that will have an impact on pedestrian traffic in the Bryden Canyon - Southway Bridge area. They granted the City of Lewiston an easement for construction and maintenance of an underpass under Snake River Avenue.

The county actually owns the stretch of property where the underpass will go, halfway between Country Club Drive and the Southway Bridge. It will connect pedestrian traffic on Bryden Avenue to the levee path system.

The underpass will be a large culvert, placed underneath Snake R. Ave.

The city needed to get right of way approval to move forward with the project. Parks and Rec Director Lynn Moss said it's all part of the $825,000 Snake River Corridor Enhancement Project.

$500,000.00 comes from an Idaho Department of Transportation Enhancement grant, $20,000.00 cash from Avista, $76,000.00 from Avista in labor and materials, $55,000.00 in cash appropriations from the City of Lewiston, and $231,000.00 in labor and equipment from the City of Lewiston.
