LEWISTON - The search continues for a new physician to oversee Emergency Medical Services in Asotin County.
In September, Doctor Jay Hunter resigned as the Medical Control Physician for Asotin County, citing emergency medical transport disputes between Lewiston and Clarkston. His resignation was set to go into effect the first of the year, but Asotin County Emergency Medical Services Council Chairman Butch Aiken said Hunter will stay on until another candidate is found. "We have three candidates at this particular time and we're waiting for Mike Lopez, from Washington Department of Health to find time to come over so we can do a job interview with these three doctors," said Aiken. EMT's cannot operate without working under a doctor. Aiken said it's important for Hunter's replacement to have experience with emergency procedures. "They're a regular doctor, but they have some ER experience," said Aiken. "It really makes it nice if they know what goes on in an ER, what the ambulance personal should be doing, right way, wrong way, and they can set procedures on how things should be done." And while filling the position is a priority, Aiken said it's important to get the right candidate. He said they hope to conduct interviews January 13. |
