ASOTIN – It was day one of a kidnapping trial in Asotin County Superior Court Wednesday.

36-year-old Rex Gregory is accused of kidnapping in the 2nd degree with sexual motivation. The prosecution says Gregory held down a 14-year-old girl in his van in September. Gregory lives next door to the alleged victim in Clarkston.

A jury was selected Wednesday morning and Wednesday afternoon attorneys gave their opening statements.

"You'll hear testimony that this isn’t the first time that Mr Gregory has been accused of inappropriate sexual activity with minors," said Asotin County Deputy Prosecutor Curt Liedkie.

"My client was asleep shortly after the incident and was awakened by police officers, with no idea in the world what he could be being accused of," said defense attorney Richard Law.

Gregory remains in the Asotin County Jail. The trial will continue Thursday, presided over by Judge William Acey.
