LEWISTON - LCSC Seniors showed off their hours of hard work at the first annual Senior Research Symposium this week.

Brian Christenson is an Assistant Professor of Social Work at LCSC. He was also a coordinator of the two-day event Wednesday and Thursday.

Christenson said the symposium is unlike anything LCSC has ever seen.

"We have had programs for years presenting on their own,” said Christenson. “This year we brought all the seniors together from 10 different programs for one, two-day symposium."

Christenson said students have been working hard to showcase their projects.

"They present their research and are disseminating their findings in either an oral presentation or a visual presentation,” he said.

Keynote speakers from all over the Inland Northwest also shared research projects they were working on.

LCSC senior Jenny Ruppel's project was several years in the making. It also may have a local impact.

"I've been implementing an HIV prevention/intervention at the prison in Orofino since 2003,” said Ruppel. “Over the last year I've been looking at the data from that project to really evaluate to see if the program is working to change knowledge and behavior."

Christenson said he is thrilled with how the symposium's inaugural year went and can't wait to get even more departments involved next year.
