LEWISTON - Brad Cannon’s name is on the sign at his Lewiston business. Owner of Cannon's Building Materials, Cannon can often be found at city council meetings as an interested, or concerned, citizen. And now he is making a bid to sit on that council.

"My father retired as a Public Works Director for the city of Lewiston," said Cannon. "So, I've been in city government for 26 years when I was growing up. I saw the good, the bad, and I think now we're seeing a little bit of the ugly. We need to bring some real positive things to the community."

The "ugly" is what he describes as broken relationships with the other governments in the area. While the Urban Renewal board member said he'd go into a council term with growth and the economy a priority, he said he wants to do it with his neighbors in mind.

"We need to mend some relationships," said Cannon. "Those have been hurt. They are our partners no matter what anybody says. Clarkston, Asotin, Whitman County, surrounding areas, we all depend on them and they depend on us. We really need to strive to strengthen that and bring that back, and that's going to be a big priority of mine."

He said council in-fighting is what's prompting him to make his bid for a seat, and uses the word "positive" a lot when describing his aspirations as a member.

"It's negative and you can't move a community forward that way," said Cannon. "So, I just think that I can bring a new look and hopefully a fresh look to the city council."
