ASOTIN - A wild land fire threatens over a dozen homes near Asotin.

It started off Clemans Road about 2:00 p.m. Sunday. Asotin County Fire Chief Noel Hardin told Action News dry land and wind gusts of up to 40 miles an hour spread the blaze quickly towards homes in the area. Mutual aid from Lewiston, Clarkston, and Whitman County District 14 worked with Asotin County fire fighters to protect structures and extinguish the blaze. A helicopter from Leading Edge Aviation was also brought in to drop buckets of water on hot spots. One firefighter suffered minor burns. She was transported to St. Joes were she was treated and released. No homes were damaged. Hardin said they were able to get the fire under control in about two and a half hours. His department is investigating the cause.
