ASOTIN - Police say a home invasion armed robbery in Asotin was motivated by a quest for drugs. And in this case, it was legal medical marijuana.

Asotin Interim Police Chief Bill Derbonne says police received a call Saturday night just after 11:00 p.m. about an armed home invasion in the 1400 block of 4th Street.

Derbonne said two suspects wearing masks reportedly knocked on the door, then kicked it in, aiming a gun at a male resident and his three-months pregnant girlfriend. Police said the male victim was assaulted, lost consciousness and had his hands tied.

The woman was also assaulted.

Derbonne said the male victim had legal medical marijuana plants growing in his home.

Derbonne said a short time after the breakin, Joshua Hieronymus and Nathaniel Shafer, both 27 and from Lewiston, were arrested for parole violations when stolen items were found in their home.

They were booked into the Nez Perce County Jail.

Derbonne said Asotin County will request extradition and prosecutors will seek charges of kidnapping, robbery, and first degree burglary with a weapon.

Derbonne said thanks to cooperation with law enforcement Valley-wide, the suspects were quickly apprehended.
