Idaho man charged with poaching sturgeon

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) — A Buhl man has been charged with a felony for allegedly poaching three sturgeon from the Snake River.

An Idaho Department of Fish and Game officer says in a court affidavit that 31-year-old Thomas Withers caught the fish in last month and took them to his house, where he kept them in a bathtub full of water while trying to figure out how to fillet them.

According to the affidavit, when he couldn't figure out the best way to fillet the fish he dumped them in a ditch near his home.

Withers has yet to enter a plea in the case. If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison and a $50,000 fine.
