CLARKSTON - Discussions continued about the new Storm water ordinance at Monday night's public hearing held by the Clarkston city council.

The storm water ordinance is an unfunded federal mandate to keep unclean water and other hazards from entering the river. Several concerned citizens spoke out during the meeting.

"All you have to do is Google on the Internet on this illicit storm water throughout the United States and you'll see the uproar of the people who have to put up with it," said one citizen.

"Reading all this, from what I can see, they haven't identified a problem," said another citizen.

Clarkston Public Works Director Jim Martin said they are working with Asotin County and the city of Asotin to share resources in order to minimize costs. In other city news, council member George Nash said the city is looking at two ambulances to possibly purchase.

"I think we really need an ambulance," said Nash. "Even if for some reason we sign with Lewiston for the trauma, I believe we need an ambulance here for all the other jobs."

On a lighter note, a couple members of the Clarkston Fire Department put on a "fashion show" of their new gear. The wild land and structural fire gear was purchased through a grant and is said to be more protective.
