CLARKSTON - Authorities said a man jumped to his death off the Southway Bridge Tuesday morning.

Nez Perce County Coroner Gary Gilliam said the Kamiah man died after witnesses said they saw him jump from the bridge just before 7:00 a.m.

Asotin County Sheriff Ken Bancroft said the man was reported missing in Idaho County over the weekend.

Deputies believe he had been in the water for about seven minutes when a helicopter spotted his body about 100 yards from the bridge. Clarkston firefighters pulled him from the water.

The man passed away at St. Joes after attempts to resuscitate him failed.
