Lewiston sweats budget deadline

LEWISTON - Time is ticking away for a budget the city thinks still has a lot of kinks to straighten out.

Just Tuesday morning, the city council added another budget work session to their agenda. Administrative Services Director Dan Marsh said the scheduled meetings, which happened once every couple of weeks, may not be enough to work out some budget issues before it's released to the public at the end of July.

Of most concern is the ongoing EMS issue, and what Marsh called impatience with Clarkston and Asotin County on coming to terms with an agreement before the budget is drafted. Marsh said the current budget is being built as if there will be EMS cooperation with Asotin County.

Marsh said other budget items include storm water fees, salaries for the now city-owned transit system, and a property tax increase. That budget meeting is Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at City Hall.
