ASOTIN - The Scenic Way bike path and road project is ready to go and the county is looking for bids.

"It was funded based on a need for an alternate mode connection between the vicinities of the Clarkston Heights and the vicinity of 15th and Fleshman Way," said Public Works Director Joel Ristau.

Much of the project is being funded with federal stimulus money. Some bordering homeowners expressed concerns Monday about the hill's stability. Some are worried about their homes sliding down the hill once work is done and the ground is disturbed. Ristau said they do not foresee that happening as the ground seems to be very stable. The county plans to start construction in August. In other county news, commissioners received an update about the local WSU extension program and how big education cuts will affect it.

WSU took about a $54 million reduction in state funds over a two year period and $3.2 million of that is coming out of the WSU extension budget," said WSU Extension Coordinator Mark Heistuman. "And probably for the county offices, the good news is they've really tried to protect the county offices.

The Asotin county extension program did lose $2,500 in mailing funds and the program statewide is being reorganized.
