LEWISTON - Now that Nez Perce County is out of the old jail on the third floor of the courthouse, it's apparently time for some hand-me-downs.

The Asotin County Historical Society wants to remodel Asotin's original jail, and Monday Nez Perce County Commissioners agreed to help. The county will donate two barred jail gate doors and one barred window covering to the historical society. Commissioner Ron Wittman said the historical value is worth far more than the scrap-metal value of the bars.

In other news, commissioners sign a five year maintenance agreement with Thyssen Krupp, the company renovating two county elevators. It will cost the county just more than $500 dollars a month to maintain. As part of the agreement, the county will save money with a company-run dispatch service, meant to help anyone who might get stuck in an elevator. The Brammer building elevator should be ready for use by July 1st. Crews will start work on the courthouse elevator in July.
