LEWISTON - She said it was like opening the door to the Publisher's Clearinghouse and a big check. But instead of a big check, she gets a place to call home.

Connie Agee can see her future before her very eyes. Agee, her husband, and ten-year-old son are renters in Lewiston, but not for long.

"These people knocked on my door and presented me with a house," said Agee.

Habitat For Humanity volunteers are "Hammering Out Homelessness", the theme of what's being calling Blitz Build 2009.

Agee will soon be moving into house number two of a three-home housing addition at 1324 Burrell Avenue.

"It's going real well this week. We have had a lot of volunteers and things are going along good. "Its coming as well as I expected, maybe a little better than I had hoped," said construction supervisor James Cooper.

No down, no interest and low monthly payments. When you're in dire financial straits, it's music to your ears.

Cooper was on the selection committee for the future occupants of these homes.

"When you're on the selection committee it gets pretty emotional, I'm coming apart a little right now," said Cooper. "I've been on the selection committee and when you tell them they got the house most of them break down and cry so it's very emotional for me as well as for them."

"For several days after I was calling friends, calling relatives, saying I was selected and eventually would have my own home," said Agee.

But Habitat won't let her just watch. Agee said while she hasn't pounded any nails, she's on the cleaning crew and has lunch duty. Cooper said the volunteer effort continues each of the next three weeks.

"I think we're going to have a lot of work for a lot of people," said Cooper.
