ANATONE - A field fire that was burning Friday near Anatone was headed southeast.

Asotin County Fire officials said there were unconfirmed reports that mowing may have sparked the fire about three miles southeast of Asotin.

Landowners were using farm equipment to fight it. The fire was burning an area that has no fire protection. There was no estimate on the size of the blaze.

Asotin County Fire Chief Noel Hardin said it was about two miles outside the district. He says it is in area that some are interested in having annexed into the district.

The fire appeared to be headed downhill toward the Snake River canyon. Hardin said if it came close to the county fire district, they will get involved to keep it out of the district.
