Leonard gets 5-15, judge retains jurisdiction

MOSCOW - A Moscow man was sentenced Friday for his role in a fatal shooting near Genesee.

25-year-old James Leonard was sentenced to 5 -15 years in prison for shooting Tyler Pace Lee during an altercation in June of 2007.

Leonard pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in February, after facing a second degree murder charge iled by Latah County Prosecutor Bill Thompson last year.

As part of a plea agreement, Leonard will be taken to the North Idaho Correctional Institute in Cottonwood for a period of retained jurisdiction, meaning Second t Judge Jeff Brudie can re-evaluate Leonard's sentence after a six month program at NICI.
