SPOKANE - A 9-year-old girl was killed in a crash Sunday on U.S. 195 south of Spokane. The crash happened just before 2 p.m.

WSP said 89-year-old Esther May Westlund of Spokane made a left turn off 195 into the path of an oncoming motorcycle driven by Robin Scholz, 51, of Colfax.

Scholz' passenger, Nehalah May, 9, of Chewelah was transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center where she died. Scholz was injured and taken to Deaconess.

Westlund was not injured in the crash. She was charged with second degree negligent driving.

WSP Trooper Troy Briggs said Monday that the fatal crash did not lead to manslaughter charges because state law requires that there be other factors, such as speed or driving under the influence.

WSP said the girl and Scholz were wearing helmets. Westlund was wearing a seat belt.
